San Antonio, TX, May 1, 2017: The congregation of Travis Park United Methodist is looking for creative solutions to redevelop parts of its downtown campus to meet its growing 21st century needs. Dating back to 1846, the church consists of the iconic sanctuary building located at the corner of Travis and Navarro. Between 1910 and 1940, the church incorporated neighboring office buildings and warehouses to form the current footprint. TPUMC recently issued a Request for Interest (RFI) inviting experienced developers to offer creative solutions that would be attractive to a vibrant downtown while meeting the church’s space and parking requirements. While the sanctuary is not included in the RFI, redevelopment ideas for all or parts of the three surrounding buildings and surface parking lot will be considered.
TPUMC has long served the San Antonio community – in and beyond the central city. A member of the Reconciling Ministries Network of United Methodist churches open to all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, TPUMC is also the home of Corazon Ministries, Inc., which serves the marginalized and homeless population of San Antonio. Through this redevelopment effort, the church is hoping to make better use of its space to further expand its message of service and inclusiveness.
